11) FAMILY WORK DAY: We kick off the new school year with a family fun event that draws a big and spirited NCRC crowd. Parents and kids pitch in to plant new shrubbery, repair, paint and spruce up the school grounds. Parent volunteers direct work crews, arrange refreshments, publicize the event, coordinate the delivery of flowers to our neighbors, and baby-sit younger siblings in the playhouse.:

12) PUMPKIN PARTY: One of highlights of the school year! The playground is magically transformed into a fall festival complete with pony rides, treasure hunts, face painting, crafts, music, food and lots more. Parent volunteers publicize the Pumpkin Party; oversee class booths and decorations; coordinate refreshments and entertainment; and assist with set-up and clean-up.:

13) WINTER CELEBRATION: A warm celebration of winter with singing, stories, food and lots of good cheer! Volunteers publicize the Winter Celebration, coordinate refreshments and entertainment in conjunction with our music teachers, and assist with set-up and clean-up.:

14) STAFF APPRECIATION LUNCH: One day in spring, parents prepare a special lunch for the teachers and administration. Grateful parents prepare delicious food and bring fresh flowers from their gardens. This special lunch is one small way parents simply say thanks. Volunteers collect flowers, food and beverages from NCRC families; create individual bouquets for the teachers and the administration; assist with set-up and clean-up; and staff the classrooms during the luncheon.:

15) PAJAMA PICNIC PARTY: Who says bedtime cannot be a blast! On this joyful evening, children (and some adults) romp on the playground in their PJs as families picnic under the trees. Each class performs songs, and everyone has a great time celebrating the end of the school year. Volunteers coordinate refreshments for the picnic, prepare the program for the evening and assist with set-up and clean-up.:

16) DIVERSE COMMUNITY COMMITTEE: NCRC’s definition of diversity is a broad one which includes, but is not limited to, race, ethnicity, religion, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, learning style, special needs, physical disability, economic diversity and adoption. Everyone at NCRC is a member of our diverse community because of the different perspective each person brings. The Diverse Community Committee promotes and facilitates the school’s goal of an equitable and inclusive educational and social experience for the NCRC community. If you are interested in working with NCRC’s Board of Trustees to assist in this critical component of the school’s mission, your service would be much appreciated. Everyone is welcome!:

17) SPECIAL NEEDS COMMITTEE: The focus of the special needs committee is on family and staff education surrounding the issues and development of our students with special needs. We are made up of the S.O.S team along with parent volunteers. This committee meets two to three times each year to organize events that would be helpful to our community. Past events include our fall parent meet and greet, where parents of students with special needs can become acquainted with one another. As well as an evening where Dr. Jake Greenspan came to discuss DIR Floortime. :

18) HOSPITALITY COMMITTEE: The Parent Association hosts several receptions over the course of the school year, including Back to School Night and the New Parents Reception. Volunteers on the Hospitality Committee coordinate refreshments for the various parent-run events and provide set-up and clean-up assistance.:

19) COMMUNITY SERVICE COMMITTEE: The Community Service Committee is dedicated to creating opportunities for members of the NCRC community to make meaningful contributions to the greater Washington community. Volunteers partner with local community and charitable organizations devoted to children, animals and the environment. In addition, volunteers work closely with NCRC staff members on a variety of community-based initiatives, such as can food collections, book drives and winter mitten and scarf donations.:

20) COMMUNITY EDUCATION COMMITTEE: The Community Education Committee will be responsible for planning and organizing panel discussions, lecture series and/or other programs and special projects that reflect the interests and concerns of our diverse community. We will provide this committee with a list of potential topics suggested by our parent community and hope that you will use your creativity to put these events together during the school year.:

21) The Community Education Committee’s Lecture Series: The Community Education Committee is an important school initiative. Guest speakers moderate insightful discussions on matters that are conducive to the development and care of healthy happy children. Please feel free to propose any topics of discussion and speakers. Your input allows us to further ensure that our lecture series reflects the diversity and interests of our NCRC community.:
22) ANNUAL FUND: This committee is looking for enthusiastic volunteers who are willing to help raise funds to support the operating budget of the school. We are looking for one or two parent volunteers from each class to be responsible for asking fellow parents to participate in the Annual Fund. The school provides you with all the necessary training. The time commitment is minimal, yet the rewards are great as you are able to help support your child's education in this important way. Participation on the Annual Fund Committee is also a great way to meet parents from other classes.:

23) THE PRESCHOOLER: The Preschooler, a parent-run newsletter, is a wonderful tradition at NCRC. The Preschooler provides important updates from the Parent Association, the Director and the Board of Trustees. The Preschooler also contains valuable information about child development; the NCRC program and staff; and tips about things to do, places to go and books to read. Volunteers serve as writers, editors, layout specialists and more.:

24) WWW.NCRCPRESCHOOL.ORG: Writers and techies--this could be for you!! NCRC's Technology Committee is busy reinventing NCRC's web site. We are looking for parent volunteers interested in managing the editorial content of the Parents Association component of the website. :

25) SHUTTERBUG COMMITTEE: Lights, camera, action! Shutterbug volunteers provide an invaluable service to the NCRC community as they take candid photographs at virtually every school event, including those mentioned above. The photographs are used for the Auction catalogue, The Preschooler and other school publications (including our updated web site). We want to capture all of our beautiful children on film and in action over the course of the year, so we would like a number of shutterbugs to call upon.:

26) LOGO ITEMS COMMITTEE: Enthusiastic volunteers are wanted for this important committee. Volunteers select items such as T-shirts, sweatshirts and hats that will bear the NCRC logo. After arranging for the printing and delivery of these items, volunteers coordinate sales at major school events -- an excellent way to meet other parents and spread the NCRC school spirit! We may expand our “school store” this year, so we are eager to have some additional help with this process.:

27) TUITION ASSISTANCE AUCTION: One of the most eagerly-anticipated (and grown-ups only!) events of the school year is the annual Tuition Assistance Auction. Virtually all parents come to share a cocktail, enjoy a festive meal and bid on the many items donated by generous businesses and NCRC families and friends. All proceeds from the evening are used to provide tuition assistance for NCRC students that would otherwise be able to attend our wonderful preschool. Planning and preparing for the Auction is a community-wide endeavor and a great way for parents to meet one another, work collectively for a great cause and simply have fun. We need everyone's assistance. We have plenty of room for all commitment leves, so PLEASE SIGN UP NO MATTER HOW MUCH OR HOW LITTLE TIME YOU HAVE. There will be opportunities for everyone!:
