How are Admissions decisions made?

Admission decisions are guided by several factors including our long-standing commitment to seek and maintain diversity.  Preference is given to siblings of current and former families, neighborhood families and children with special needs.

The Admission Committee seeks to balance each class with regard to gender, ethnicity, race, personality, temperament, family structure, and the inclusion of children with special needs.  Decisions are not made on a first-come-first-served basis. When applicants exceed the available spaces, children not accepted remain in an active waiting pool to be considered when an appropriate place becomes available.

Is tuition assistance available?

Grants are available each year to help defray tuition costs for children who would otherwise be unable to attend NCRC. The tuition assistance process is needs-based. The Scholarship Auction is a major annual event. All funds raised in this effort are used solely for tuition assistance.  In the 2008-09 school year, NCRC raised $170,000 for tuition assistance.  Awards range from 40% to 95% of tuition and fees.

What is the difference between morning and afternoon classes? And why should I consider afternoon classes?

Teachers, curriculum, activities and resources are the same in both morning and afternoon programs. In each class, we seek to balance gender, learning styles, diversity and personalities. The choice of morning or afternoon classes allows families to meet their own individual needs. Many families choose afternoon programs for their children who may not be at their best in the morning, or who wish to keep a low key morning and provide a stimulating environment for the afternoon. Families sometimes choose afternoon classes so that their evenings at home can be more flexible.

Can my child attend summer camp?

NCRC offers a summer camp program during the months of June and July  Admission is open to all children, with priority given to NCRC families (new or returning). The program is directed and planned by an NCRC faculty member.  Camp classes are staffed by two qualified teachers and one or two counselors. The program is for children ages 2½ - 5½ years and offers morning and all day sessions.
